Elektroencephalografi (EEG) og bevissthet, med bakgrunn i fysikk og teoretisk nevrovitenskap.

Bjørn forsker på sammenhengen mellom hjernen og bevissthet. Han leder forskningsprosjektet "Assessing the presence of covert consciousness in unresponsive dying patients. A translational research project" med støtte fra Forskningsrådet, og jobber aktivt med å finne objektivt målbare signaturer for bevissthet. Han er også aktiv i utviklingen av en vitenskapelig teori for bevissthet, Integrert informasjonsteori (IIT), i samarbeid med University of Wisconsin - Madison.
